KASUR: Urs of Hazrat Baba Imam Shah known as Mela Basant started here on Friday.

People flew kites as part of the Urs celebrations. They remained at rooftop of their houses and continued to fly kites till evening. The City police captured children and youths flying and catching stray kites on roads and streets. Despite ban on kite flying in Punjab including Kasur, people enjoyed kite flying and the whole sky was covered with colourful kites till filing of the report. More than twenty people including children were injured with twines and falling from roofs during catching kites. Nose of 25-year-old Ishfaq was cut by the kite twine when he was going on his motorcycle. Arif , Ghulam Ali, five years old daughter of Yaseen, Asif from Rukun Pura and Abdul Manan were also injured and shifted Kasur DHQ Hospital by Rescue 1122. According to City ASP Irfan Ullah Khan, cases have been registered against kite flyers and the people doing fire in the air. He said children were released after giving warnings to their parents. It is noted that a local holiday had always been announced by the district administration, but at this the district administration did not announce the local holiday on the eve of Urs of Imam Shah Bokhari. People condemned and demanded the DCO announce holiday. Electricity remained suspended for several hours due to short-circuit by metal wire used by kite flyers.
